Special adaptations grant for individuals with a disability
A capital grant that can be obtained from the State for the purpose of adapting a new or existing dwelling to accommodate physically handicapped persons, individuals suffering from one or more motor disabilities.
State assistance corresponds to 60% of the cost of the work, up to a maximum of 15,000€.
Conditions
1. to qualify, you must be personally afflicted by one or more motor handicaps that constitute a permanent physical disability or loss of ability and that prevent you from accomplishing normal daily activities and particularly from moving about on your own
2. or you must be the owner or usufructuary of a dwelling that houses a physically disabled person, provided that you have effected at your cost the special adaptations recognised as such
3. you must effectively live in a legal residence established in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
4. when the cost of the work is not paid for by dependency insurance
Household composition
The grant is assessed on the basis of the household composition existing on the date that the construction or adaptation work begins. The children taken into consideration for the assessment are those for whom you receive child benefit.
Income
Based on the composition of your household, your taxable income for the year immediately preceding the date the work began or your average income for the 3 years preceding that date, may not exceed the ceilings stipulated below.
If you do not file a joint income tax declaration with the grant applicant and you are a member of his or her household, your income will be added to the applicant's taxable income (see ceilings stipulated above). Furthermore, you are considered a member of the applicant's household, even though child benefit may not be allotted on your behalf.
Special adaptations
- installation of special access to the dwelling
- alterations and adaptations facilitating movement inside the dwelling
- enlargement of doorways
- initial installation of a special stairlift or equivalent facility
- initial installation of special kitchen, bathroom, or sanitary equipment
- adaptation of electrical installations to meet special needs
Procedure to obtain a special adaptations grant
- you can obtain a special adaptation grant application form from the "Service des Aides au Logement, Coin avenue Gaston Diderich / boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, L-1420 Luxembourg". You will receive a multipurpose form covering all State subsidies and benefits for individual private housing.
