Description
The new rail line between Luxembourg and Bettembourg consists in the construction of a new section of two-track line approximately 7 km long, with no intermediate stops.
Starting from the future interchange hub at Howald, the line first crosses the A3 motorway south of the Gasperich interchange and continues its route as far west as Bettembourg. The line departs from the motorway north of the Berchem motorway area, bypassing it to the west. It then passes under the national road RN31 before crossing the existing Luxembourg-Bettembourg line in the Alzette valley by means of a grade separation. After crossing the Alzette, the new line and the existing one come together until the northern entrance to Bettembourg station.
The works carried out by Félix Giorgetti include the construction of a series of hydraulic structures and crossing structures, including lot OA 12 and lot OA05 & 06, called the "flyover", located at the junction with the existing railway line north of Bettembourg. This crossing of the two railway lines also requires the translation of the existing line of about 30 meters towards its old route.
Lot O.A. 05 is a work of approximately 542 ml, composed of 8 sub-works: from O.A.05A to O.A.05H. Each of these sub-structures is made up of 17 sections, for a total of 2,160 t of frame and 600,000 kg of steel for a volume of concrete of around 5,000 m3.
