The adventure continues at the new wastewater treatment plant — more explicit The adventure goes on at the new plant

More than two years after the first concrete pour, the construction site for Uebersyren's new biological wastewater treatment plant is entering its final stretch. The shell and core works, carried out by our Civil Engineering teams, will be completed in October.

As the collective summer holidays approach, the structure now stands fully revealed in the landscape. Both the structure and the basins are clearly visible. "Everything you see here stays open-air," notes Lucas Guastalli, site manager. Before the keys are handed over, screeds still need to be poured, doors and windows installed, and painting completed.

A technical challenge overcome

Our teams have just completed the formwork for particularly complex elements that represent one of the project's key challenges: two three-sided pieces and six four-sided pieces, inclined at 50°.

This steep slope creates a settling basin, where particles in the water naturally sink to the bottom before treatment.

The numbers convey the scale of the structure. Over two years of work, our teams have used 26,500 m³ of concrete — including a specific watertight concrete for all parts in contact with water — and 5,900 tonnes of steel, in partnership with Ferras. The main basin spans 146 metres long and 65 metres wide, including a below-ground section 10 m deep. An impressive structure, now firmly settled into its surroundings.

An additional mission

The project doesn't stop there. Construction of a new, more compact basin — measuring 60 by 30 metres with 18,000 m³ of earthworks — has been added to the programme. Work will begin in the autumn, with completion scheduled for September 2027.

Further works will follow to complete the whole: pipe jacking — a technique for installing pipes underground without digging a trench — to connect the new facility to the original plant, the installation of the utility networks and the resurfacing of the access road.

Once operational, the new treatment plant will process wastewater from several neighbouring municipalities as well as the airport, with capacity significantly increased from 35,000 to 122,000 population equivalent. A major project in service of the environment and future generations!
