Another success for the Giorun

After two years of absence, the Giorun made a great comeback on June 17. More than 400 people took part to the race of this beautiful sport and charity event animated by Gilles Bley from Spiridon.

In spite of the heat, the runners bravely competed on the two courses of 5.5km and 10km. After a warm up session given by Coach at home, the race started at 7:30pm in the middle of the machines, workshops and cranes of the logistic center of Félix Giorgetti in Leudelange and then headed towards the forest and through the fields, with Marc Giorgetti as the leader of the procession.

A few minutes later, a Nordic walking group led by Parkinson Luxembourg took the start of the short course.

Yonas Kinde et Tetyana Vernygor, winners of the 10km

Quickly, the leaders of the race crossed the finish line.

For the 10 km, Yonas Kinde, a Kenyan sportsman well known in the races of the region, who won in 33 minutes and 12 seconds and in 42 minutes and 11 seconds for the Ukrainian Tetyana Vernygor. Vincent Humbert (22 minutes and 29 seconds) and Lisa Pas (25 minutes and 10 seconds) finished first in the 5.5 km ranking.

After the finish, everyone was able to get their strength back at the refreshment stand, the bar and the barbecue while waiting for Paul Giorgetti to award the prizes in the different categories of the race. The Nordic walkers received a Giorun t-shirt and sweets from Fischer.

Thanks to their race number, participants could also try their luck at the tombola. Many prizes were provided by our numerous partners.

21.000 euros to charity

The Giorun is a sporting event, but also a charity event. The profits collected thanks to its organization are indeed donated to associations.

For this edition, the Giofriends chose to renew their support to Parkinson Luxembourg and Alan Maladies Rares whose numerous actions allow to accompany the patients in Luxembourg.

It is with pride and emotion that Paul Giorgetti, Antonio Moreira and Myriam Küpper (respectively president and treasurer of the Giofriends) handed over to each of them a check for 10,500 euros. "The help we received will allow us to continue our actions: psychological follow-up, administrative and social support. We also offer a range of adapted recreational and sports activities and we are committed to better recognition and political changes, notably through the National Plan for Rare Diseases. We are very happy and grateful to be able to count Giorgetti Friends among our privileged friends and partners. A big thank you to the organizers, sponsors, runners and volunteers," said Daniel Theisen, Director of Alan Maladies Rares.

"This huge amount of money will be used to reorganize our activities at the Meeting Centre La Tulipe in Leudelange to reach a pre-pandemic level and, above all, to develop our project in the north of the country, more precisely in the commune of Goesdorf. On behalf of the members and the board of directors, we thank all the organizers, participants, volunteers and ALAN Asbl for this wonderful experience and we can only hope to see us all again in June 2023, added Parkinson Luxembourg Asbl.

See you on June 16, 2023 for a new edition of the Giorun, hoping that it will be as beautiful as this one!

Last but not least, the Giofriends would like to thank all our sponsors and volunteers (more than 60) without whom this Giorun could not have taken place.
