That's a wrap for level crossing PN59 in Moutfort
The level crossing on the Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trier railway line has now given way to two new underpasses: one for vehicles, the other for pedestrians.
A major transformation that enhances safety, improves traffic flow and contributes to the quality of life of local residents.
Inaugurated on 2 July in the presence of the Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, the Mayor of Contern, Dali Zhu, and the CEO of CFL, Marc Wengler, these structures are part of the national programme to eliminate level crossings. Since 2012, 42 have already been removed, with 81 still to be secured.
“A level crossing located in the heart of a community no longer meets today’s safety standards,” said Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works. “By replacing it with appropriate infrastructure such as underpasses or bridges, we eliminate both waiting times and safety risks, while also helping to improve the quality of life for local residents.”
This project drew on the full expertise of our Civil Engineering teams. Among the highlights: the sliding into place of the massive concrete frames beneath the railway tracks — a technical operation carried out against the clock.
We thank CFL for their trust and extend our warmest congratulations to our employees for their commitment and the success of this project in the service of safer mobility.
