Safety and smooth traffic flow in Moutfort
In Moutfort, a new underpass for vehicles and an underground passageway for pedestrians are replacing level crossing No. 59. This marks a new step forward in improving safety at road-rail crossings.
The project to remove level crossing No. 59 is part of a CFL initiative to replace road-rail intersections in order to improve safety and ease traffic flow. In Moutfort, our teams have begun work on two separate structures: a road underpass for motorists, allowing vehicles to pass under the tracks without stopping or maneuvering, and, nearby, an underground passageway for pedestrians, providing them with a convenient route that will make it easier to cross from the Ledenbierg neighborhood to Rue du Chemin de Fer. The road layout will be adapted over a length of approximately 200 m.
A carefully planned construction project
The phasing of the work, which will take a total of 350 days, has been designed to preserve the continuity of local life. The initial preparatory work involved monitoring the tracks and shoring using triaxial sensors, supporting the prefabrication pits with Berlin walls, and diverting the CFL networks.
In order to ensure continuity of rail transport and limit the impact of the works on traffic, the two reinforced concrete structures that will form the future passages were prefabricated on site:
- The frame of the 1,000-ton road underpass is 12 m wide, 15 m long, and 8 m high.
- The frame of the 100-ton pedestrian underpass is 3.75 m wide, 9 m long, and 3.80 m high.
A skidding operation was chosen to install these two structures in their final locations.
The project is now entering a new phase: laying networks around the structures, building adjacent embankments, developing the railway platform, and putting the track back into service. It will be completed with road connections, pedestrian infrastructure—access ramps and stairs—and finishing touches.
