The tram network is expanding in Kirchberg

Work has officially begun on the tram extension to Kirchberg. The new section is 2.3 km long.

A symbolic ground-breaking on Boulevard Konrad Adenauer, held on Friday, May 16, officially marked the launch of construction works for the tram extension in Kirchberg. The ceremony took place in the presence of Helge Dorstewitz (CEO of Luxtram), Lydie Polfer (Mayor of VDL), Yuriko Backes (Minister for Transport and Public Works), and Corinne Cahen (Councillor of VDL).

This 2.3 km extension, named K2A, extends Line 1 from Rout-Bréck – Pafendall to Laangfur, with three new stops, including one at the European School. Eventually, the line will be extended to Luxexpo to support soft mobility.

A Major Urban Infrastructure and Public Space Project

Thanks to our expertise in civil engineering, we have been contracted—together with Socom and Sopinor in a temporary consortium—to carry out the external development and infrastructure works. Our scope includes demolition, earthworks, drainage, rerouting of water and dry utility networks, the construction of reinforced concrete structures, and roadworks.

First travel is scheduled for 2027.
