Inauguration of the PC8

On Friday 23 December, only one and a half year after the groundbreaking ceremony, François Bausch, deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility and Public Works – in the presence of Joëlle Welfring, minister of Environment, Climate and Sustainable development, of Georges Mischo and Simone Asselborn-Bintz, respectively mayors of Esch-sur-Alzette and Sanem – officially inaugurated the PC8, the cycle path linking Esch-sur-Alzette to Belval.

The longuest cycle bridge in Europe

This major soft mobility project in Luxembourg is 2 km long and consists of a  « VëloDuckt », cycle bridge of 1.2km which reaches up to 7.5m high, making it the longest cycle bridge in Europe.

Cyclists and pedestrians will enjoy a panoramic view of the steel district and its former blast furnaces?

"We are very proud to have been able to carry out this project for the National Roads Administration, especially since it is the first time we have done this time of structure which we accomplished in record time. Congratulations to our teams for their work and their commitment to this great project," says Paul Giorgetti, our managing partners.

"A crucial step in the construction of the express bicycle path linking Esch-sur-Alzette to Luxembourg"

The PC8 is part of a larger scale development of cycle paths in the Grand Dychy of Luxembourg, an essential element of the National Mobility Plan 2035.

"This direct cycle link is an important piece of the cycle infrastructure puzzle in order to improve soft mobility in the heart of the south of the country. According to the National Mobility Plan 2035, it is an axis that constitutes a crucial step in the construction of the express bicycle path linking Esch-sur-Alzette to Luxembourg. This project will provide pedestrians and cyclists with a direct and safe route between the old Esch-sur-Alzette district and the Belval university district. Luxembourg will see a rebound in tourism, with the longest cycle bridge in Europe framed by the steelworks site, which is characterised by a mixture of industrial heritage, modern architecture and railway tracks. When you work on a mobility project, you also have to ensure that it is safe", Minister François Bausch was pleased to say at the opening ceremony.
