Riva

A new mixed-use district between Mersch station and the Alzette valley.

Meet, talk, share

Houses or apartments, a first home or a family nest: Riva fits every stage of life. The architecture takes its cue from the surrounding nature. Warm materials, light-filled spaces, generous gardens: everything is designed with residents' well-being in mind.

Shops, offices and the school are a few steps away. The district's squares and gardens are not just places to pass through; they are made for stopping, meeting your neighbours and crossing paths with visitors. At Riva, community is a principle.

From the station to the Alzette valley

The district opens onto the station's transport hub, where trains reach Luxembourg City in under 20 minutes and serve the north of the country. The underpass leads straight to Mersch's historic centre. On the other side, footpaths and cycle paths run down to the green Alzette valley. Day to day: the train for the city, the bike for the river, and walking just for the pleasure of it.

Living immersed in nature

Architecture open to its surroundings, designed to reduce energy needs.

Inspired by the green Mersch valley, the district puts nature at the heart of its design. In offices, shops and restaurants as in the homes, large glazed surfaces extend the interiors outwards and open up clear views of the natural surroundings. Verandas that shield against summer overheating and let the winter sun in, tree-trunk columns, bio-based flax insulation, green roofs fitted with solar panels: the architecture, the materials and the technical choices all reduce energy needs.

This approach began before the first buildings. For almost 60 years, the site was home to the Agrocenter of the Cepal agricultural cooperative, whose 60 grain silos long shaped the Mersch skyline. Its demolition, launched by Félix Giorgetti in 2018, was carried out with particular care for reusing materials: 200,000 tonnes of concrete were crushed and reused in the roads and buildings of the future district.

Everyday life, perfectly connected

15 km from the capital, at the geographical centre of Luxembourg.

Two pedestrian entrances link Riva directly to Mersch station and its 405-space park and ride. From this recently renovated transport hub, Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg is 13 minutes away by train, free of charge; by car, the A7 motorway serves the town.

Everything you need is within reach: primary and secondary schools, nurseries, a sports centre, a swimming pool, shops, a market, cafés, restaurants and healthcare services. The castle, the Saint-Michel tower, the National Literature Centre and the Mierscher Kulturhaus keep cultural life going all year round.

Mersch belongs to the Guttland, where the Alzette, the Mamer and the Eisch meet. Walking trails, cycle paths, riverbanks and forests surround the town. With just over 10,000 inhabitants across almost 50 km², the municipality combines the energy of a growing town with a preserved natural setting.
