The challenge also lies in the schedule, since the shell of the building must be completed by the end of 2024. That's just nine months after work began.

Reactivity and mobilisation

In March 2024, F&eacute;lix Giorgetti launched the construction of Losch's new headquarters in Kockelscheuer, all&eacute;e Louis Ackermann in the municipality of Roeser. Located alongside Cube 4T8 - Losch's innovation centre - the 9,772 m2 office building is designed to accommodate 300 people over three floors, with two levels of basement parking. The building has been designed with sustainability in mind, and will incorporate geothermal energy, a photovoltaic system and a rainwater recovery system.
Impeccable execution
What's special about this project? The majority of the building is made of architectural concrete, which means that the walls will be left exposed. The quality of the concrete and its execution must therefore be impeccable. Of the 7,253 m3 of concrete, 4,560 m3 will be made from visible concrete.

Losch Luxembourg, a company with a long history in the automotive sector, laid the foundation stone for its new head office this year. And the historic automotive company entrusted the structural work to Félix Giorgetti.

The walls are made of architectural concrete.

The construction of a hospital involves a number of technical features, including the use of baryta concrete (high density) for the so-called "critical" areas, which contain X-ray machines or sensitive products. The building's waterproofing has also been improved. The perimeter walls and floor slab are covered with a white tank. The reinforcement is reinforced to prevent cracking, and all critical points such as the joints where the concrete is poured are treated to ensure watertightness. A membrane that adheres to the concrete as it is poured is used for critical areas.
Delivery of the shell, external fittings and networks is scheduled for the end of 2027.

Technical features

Conception

Covering an area of 54,158 m2, the new building stretches between Val Fleuri and Rue Ferderspiel, on the site where the old maternity hospital once stood.
The building has nine storeys and three basement levels. It has 378 rooms, 478 beds, 18 operating theatres, 6 endoscopy rooms and two helipads.
The aim of the project is to bring together on a single site all the acute clinical activities hitherto split between CHL Centre and CHL Eich, as well as the Institut national de chirurgie cardiaque et de cardiologie interventionnelle (INCCI). It is also surrounded by the existing CHL, to which it will be linked by a footbridge, and the maternity unit, which opened in 2015.

A project under discussion since 2013, the long-awaited construction of the new CHL began in February 2024. The structural work on the country's largest hospital is being carried out by the joint venture of Félix Gioregetti, CBL, Galère Lux and Lux TP.

The project also includes visible concrete elements such as the central staircase, underground elements such as these columns and perimeter walls.

The new hospital should open in 2028.

Nestled between the exit of the Fort Neipperg car park and the platforms of Central Station, the rue du Chemin de Fer will play a very important role in the construction of the new CFL headquarters. It will indeed be the entry point to the site. The road is being widened in two stages, with the first part completed in July 2023. The work involved widening the road and creating an access ramp to allow machinery to reach the site several metres below. The second phase will take place at the end of 2026, when the building is handed over and the ramp becomes an access point for emergency services.
<h3>From 3.5 to 7 m wide</h3>
The challenge lies in the narrowness of the site, between the car park exit at the top and the station platforms at the bottom. To maintain one-way traffic, an impressive gantry crane was installed, with a 60 m long jib and a hook height of 36 m. Our teams demolished the stairs leading down to a platform, as well as part of the platform and the retaining wall. New foundations were laid to build a new retaining wall, making it possible to extend the road from 3.5 to 7 m in width. The new road rests on 6 m-high mews, beams, predales and slabs cast on site. It is bordered by prefabricated cornices. The asphalt was laid by our partner Julien Cajot.

As part of the construction of the new CFL headquarters, our teams widened the Rue du Chemin de Fer.

Preparatory work

The joint venture F&eacute;lix Giorgetti, CDCL and Poeckes was chosen by Chemins de fer luxembourgeois to build its new 24,000 m2 head office.
It was also awarded the contract to install the living quarters, as well as cleaning out the old building and stabilising its fa&ccedil;ades.
Completion of this major project is scheduled for 2026.

A large-scale project

A project with a very interesting architectural and environmental concept that echoes the values of our company. CFL opted for a partial demolition of the old building, which dates from the 1950s, while preserving elements typical of the architecture of the period, such as the main fa&ccedil;ades overlooking Place de la Gare, the central core, the entrance staircase and the mosaic mural in the entrance hall. The new building will also boast superior energy performance and is aiming for BREEAM Excellent certification.

CFL has chosen the joint venture Félix Giorgetti, CDCL and Poeckes to build its new head office, which will accommodate up to 1,200 employees.

Construction work on the new CFL headquarters began in summer 2023.

The first building will rise to a height of 31 m over eight storeys, while the second will have five storeys and be 21 m high.
There are a number of special features to this project, in particular the floors, which will be made of concrete from the first floor upwards - requiring particular care during construction to ensure a perfect appearance.
The assignment also includes the external joinery and facades, with the installation of 360 window frames and 4,000 m2 of brickwork.

Certified BREEAM Very Good, the 20,000 m2 complex comprises two buildings on a common trunk of five levels - two of which are underground - covering 5,000 m2. 

Deux bâtiments

Landimmo Real Estate, a member of the Landewyck Group, has entrusted F&eacute;lix Giorgetti and CDCL with the construction of Ettelbruck One, its Nordstad Administrative Centre. Located in Ettelbruck, this complex of almost 20,000 m2 of gross floor area is being built on a site steeped in history, where a former tobacco factory belonging to the Landewyck Group once stood. The new building, with its modern, avant-garde architecture, will bring together several of the country's public institutions and administrations, a medical centre, offices, shops and restaurants. This BREEAM-certified project will bring a new dynamic to the region. Structural work began in September 2023 and will be completed by the end of 2024.

For Landimmo Real Estate, Félix Giorgetti and CDCL are responsible for the shell of Ettelbruck ONE, a 2,000 m2 administrative complex.

The road will start at the "Op der H&eacute;i" roundabout and end 4.4 km further north, a few hundred metres after the new Hosingen-Nord interchange at Dorscheid. This will require the construction of a number of engineering structures: seven bridges (including two biotope structures and a wildlife crossing) and a cut-and-cover tunnel. In addition to the network of stormwater pipes for the road and the existing pipes that will be relocated, six water distributors and four retention basins are planned. The stripped topsoil will be reused to cover the embankments and other infrastructure.

The Hosingen bypass is intended to relieve congestion in the village centre, which sees almost 17,000 vehicles pass through every day. 

Freeing up the city centre

With a length of 325 m, the structure will consist of two tubes, each housing two lanes of traffic and as many pavements for pedestrians, separated by a reinforced concrete wall. The gauge will have a clearance height of 5 m for normal traffic and 5.50 m for exceptional transport. The technical supply and monitoring facilities will be located in a service building at the northern exit of the cut-and-cover tunnel. Construction of the cut-and-cover will involve major earthworks to a depth of 25 m, involving a total of 350,000 m3 of excavated material, all of which will be stored on site for re-use. With its rounded geometry, the construction of the structure represents quite a challenge. A 15 m long double carriage will then be installed to carry out the concreting of the cut-and-cover and its two tubes in phases.

The earthworks have started in September 2023.

The project was officially launched in June 2023 in the presence of François Bausch (Minister for Mobility and Public Works), Romain Wester (Mayor), Marc Ries (Ponts et Chaussées) and Paul Giorgetti.

The environment also plays an important role in this new route. In order to protect the local fauna, our teams have installed protective netting and will build in crossings under the road to allow frogs, in particular, to cross in complete safety. The Moulterbach stream will also be restored and enhanced, with a new bed meandering peacefully along the new road. In keeping with the environmental approach, 85,000 m3 of material from the earthworks will be processed on site and reused for the pavement boxes.

Protecting nature

This is why our teams have opted for a different methodology and will be using the top-down construction technique. The area will first be stabilised with 400 90 cm diameter piles, on which a covering slab will be placed.&nbsp;
Our teams will then come and dig eight metres below the structure to pour its 70 cm invert and its walls, representing 20,000 m3 of material to be evacuated.
<h3>A curved trajectory</h3>
This underpinning work is one of the greatest challenges of this project. Added to this is the fact that the trajectory of the trench is curved. A formwork carriage will be used to pour concrete over the entire height of the walls, in 10 m increments, to ensure that the curvature of the structure is respected.

Top-down construction

For many years now, the Route des Trois Cantons - the main thoroughfare for the municipality to the west of the capital - has been saturated. More than 8,000 vehicles pass through every day, slowed down by the PN5 level crossing, which is closed for up to 40 minutes an hour. The new bypass will provide a direct link between the municipalities of Reckange-sur-Mess and Bettange-sur-Mess, offering an alternative to the Route des Trois Cantons, which runs through the conurbation, and eliminating its level crossing for greater safety. With a length of 2.2 km, the route will include two lanes of traffic and two junctions at each end to ensure that traffic flows smoothly. It will comprise a number of structures and facilities:
<ul>
<li>a 125 m-long cut-and-cover tunnel, with two 50 m-long access hoppers, which will run under the roundabout towards Bettange-sur-Mess ;</li>
<li>an 85 m mixed metal and concrete footbridge for soft mobility;</li>
<li>a reinforced concrete overpass 15 m long and 5 m wide;</li>
<li>cycle paths;</li>
<li>a farm track;</li>
<li>hydraulic structures such as canals and a retention basin;</li>
<li>a crossroads;</li>
<li>noise protection measures such as noise barriers.</li>
</ul>

This solution involves prefabricating walls at Green Stone's production site in Bastogne, Belgium. These are then delivered to the site, ready to be installed according to an installation plan supplied by its design office. There are many advantages to this method, including speed of installation, time savings and improved working conditions for the workers involved. For example, a house can be built in one storey a day, compared with 10 days using the traditional method. The walls are also made of Poroton&reg;, a clay brick containing mineral wool insulation. These combined materials offer excellent thermal performance, making it possible to design homes that consume less energy. Thanks to its integrated insulation, there is no longer any need for external insulation, and fa&ccedil;ade renderings can be applied directly, saving even more time on planning.

To build our housing estate, we chose Green Stone technology, a high-performance solution.

High-performance, eco-responsible construction

Heading to Bascharage, southwest of Luxembourg. This section of the city of K&auml;erjeng in the canton of Capellen has nearly 6,000 inhabitants and is known for its National Brewery, one of the symbols of Luxembourg&rsquo;s terroir.
Located 16 km from Luxembourg-city, 14 km from Esch-sur-Alzette, 7 km from the Belgian border and 13 km from the French border, Bascharage is close to the country&rsquo;s biggest cities and to the main roads, while offering a calm and pleasant living environment.
In terms of mobility, the city has a train station (at Sanem and P&eacute;tange) and is served by numerous bus lines.
Cyclists can also use the two cycle paths that pass through the town.
All the amenities of a big city are also present; schools and high schools, banks and institutions or shops (Cactus, pharmacies, restaurants, gas stations, etc.). Everything is there, five minutes from your future home.

This new residential development is in a quiet, privileged location, set back from the main road between Avenue de Luxembourg and Rue des Pr&eacute;s. It comprises 15 single-family homes and three small-scale residences, each with four flats. With its soft colours, zinc roofing, large elegantly framed windows and green spaces, our teams have created a haven of peace, an invitation to well-being and a gentle way of life.

In addition, two bridges will be built to carry the N13 under the A4, and the existing bridge on rue de l'Europe will be demolished. The retention basin connected to the Mess river below will also be redeveloped.
To ensure the peace and quiet of residents, 9,400 m2 of acoustic walls will be installed along the route.
As this is a busy road, traffic will have to be kept moving throughout the works. For this reason, the width of the carriageway and the speed limit have been reduced until the work is completed in February 2026.

Especially as motorists currently have to make a diversion through the town to reach the capital. This has a major impact on the comfort and safety of local residents.

Organised in several phases, the work being carried out by F&eacute;lix Giorgetti on behalf of Ponts et Chauss&eacute;es and the municipality of Mondercrange will initially involve redesigning half of the Esch-Luxembourg interchange, with the creation of two slip roads. These will be served by an oval roundabout 230 m long and 80 m wide, which will extend under the motorway and be equipped with traffic lights. It will also provide direct access to the Wickrange industrial estate and lead to GRIDX.&nbsp;

Inaugurated at the end of the 1960s, the Pontpierre interchange is one of the oldest in the country. Traffic has exploded since then, making it necessary to adapt the infrastructure, which has just three slip roads for entering and leaving the A4.

<div>The construction site will also include a major earthwork project, involving some 140,000m3 of excavation and backfill in order to level out the terrain. This will start with stripping the topsoil. A maximum of the extracted material will be reused.</div>
<h3>Reinforcing the soil</h3>
<div>As the quality of the soil was not sufficient to accommodate the road structure, our teams called on a special machine to create 2,800 ballasted columns. This technique consists of reinforcing the soil by digging shafts - the columns - and injecting ballast, a material that is both permeable to water and has high mechanical properties, into them at high pressure. The column is made throughout the loose soil layer and descends to a more resistant layer of soil. In this project, the ballasted columns will reach a depth from 6 to 8 m.</div>

<div>As the route is very busy, this structure, which passes under the roadway, represents one of the major challenges of the project. It involves digging up to 11m under the road while limiting the impact on traffic.</div>

<div>To do this, a bypass will be installed on one side of the road and then on the other, with a speed limit of 70km/h to allow our teams to carry out the earthworks.</div>
<div>The project also includes two hydraulic structures to channel the nearby river and reinforce a drinking water pipe from Roeser.</div>
<div>In terms of soft mobility, it is also planned to make sections of the PCY and PC28 cycle paths that will pass nearby. </div>

The assignment includes the construction of the foundations of the two-track line as well as several structures, including a cut-and-cover tunnel to allow the train to pass under the N31 between Bettembourg and Livange at the Ibis hotel.

The major challenges of the project

With a total surface area of 14,000 m2, this office building will offer optimised, tailor-made and comfortable work spaces to promote the well-being, collaboration, exchanges and productivity of employees. Its BREEAM Excellent certification will guarantee its energy performance and sustainability. The Waves is also aiming for Well Gold certification and meets the standards for people with reduced mobility.

A real architectural jewel, it consists of two volumes of asymmetrical heights linked by a large open interior courtyard that bathes all the spaces in natural light. It is four storeys high on one side and seven storeys high on the other. The entrance is set back slightly, at the junction of the two buildings on the north-east fa&ccedil;ade, while access to the 100 parking spaces, located on the two basement levels, is via the south-west fa&ccedil;ade. The Waves also houses a large 360 m2 inner courtyard that will welcome occupants and visitors in a pleasant, green setting.

The Waves will take place on Rue Lucien Thiel, on the Kirchberg plateau, known for the large national and international companies that have chosen to establish themselves there. More than a simple business district, the Kirchberg is animated by a strong dynamic thanks to an important commercial, cultural, educational and residential offer. All this in a modern and welcoming environment. The address is also very well served thanks to the numerous public transport lines that will allow access to the four corners of the city, including a second tram line that will run at the foot of the building by 2035.

"We have to be perfectly organised," explains our site manager. We are working along a busy road. The safety rules are therefore very strict. For example, you can't get within one and a half metres of the concrete blocks. Vehicle traffic is limited to 70 km/h, but you never know. A truck could hit the wall and cause serious damage."
Another requirement is the circulation of authorities. One lane must be accessible at all times to facilitate their intervention through the heavy traffic. An access road was therefore created on what stood as the hard shoulder, as well as refuge areas in case of a break down.
The final constraint was the motorway service area at the beginning of the section under construction. "The petrol station is the busiest in Europe, and closing it is not an option. We therefore had to find solutions to manage the traffic and maintain its activity."

The A3 widening project has some special features, particularly in terms of organisation, safety and traffic management.

Optimal safety

The major project to widen the A3 to 2x3 lanes between the French border and the capital began in mid-2022. This project is long awaited by the thousands motorists who use the route every day, and represents a major mobility challenge for the country. As part of this large-scale project, F&eacute;lix Giorgetti is in charge of the construction of the section between the Croix de Gasperich and the Livange interchange. More than two years of work are planned for this 4km section. Initially, the work involve extensive earthworks with the removal of more than 200,000m3 of material. For this purpose, our teams have been equipped with a Komatsu PC 490, which is ideal for large-scale work, and a Liebherr R926 Compact, which is controlled by a Leica GPS to ensure perfect embankment. The motorway widening also includes the laying of sewerage and multi-tube channels (for electricity and fiber-optic internet), the construction of foundations for future gantries, the laying of acoustic walls, and the creation of a 16,450m3 retention basin with a large vegetated area.

Started last November and March, the work must be completed by September 2023 and spring 2024 respectively to prepare for the arrival of the tram. Our teams are fully mobilised, with increased staffing levels and a six-day-a-week schedule to complete this important mobility project as planned.

The main challenge of these assignments lies in the schedule.

Stronger workforce for an ambitious schedule

This section will also require the construction of a retaining wall approximately 135m long and 11m high and 120,000m3 of fill to absorb the steep slope of the terrain. The main component of the lot, this structure is made of reinforced earth (a structure that combines backfill, reinforcement and a modular system of prefabricated concrete panels) and will be composed of reinforcement up to 8m long.
Lot 2a involves sinking under the motorway for the passage of networks and the construction of a covered trench. This 375m long structure with its hoppers will open the way for the tram under the Senningerberg interchange.

The new road will also allow motorists to drive directly to the A1 towards Trier.

Paving the way for the tram

Lot 1 consists of the redevelopment of the Senningerberg interchange, with the construction of part of the new H&ouml;henhof boulevard and the creation of a connecting road between the boulevard and the route de Tr&egrave;ves. This work will turn the area into a real mobility hub, including a P+R, a bicycle parking area, a bicycle path and a tram line with bus and tram stops.

In the context of the arrival of the tram to the Findel by the end of 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Mobility has entrusted Félix Giorgetti with the realisation of lots 1 and 2a.

After the rehabilitation of the Findel runway, the construction of a retention basin and the E121 security post, to name but a few, this is a new project carried out for lux-Airport that has been successfully completed. In addition to the initial order, the construction of a 250m2 guardhouse and the external works (including the user car park and the extension of the taxi park on the runway) were also added. The latter were carried out in joint venture.

Further works

In addition to the hangar, the structure includes workshops, storage areas and an administrative building that will accommodate the 160 or so Luxair Technics employees and support future growth.
The project started in May 2022 and was completed in record time, with the structural work delivered, as planned, less than a year later, in March 2023.

Supporting staff growth

This new infrastructure plays a decisive role for the Luxembourg airline.&nbsp; The new facility, located southwest of the runway, will replace the historic hangar built in 1951 in Neudorf and will be able to accommodate, for example, two large and one small commercial aircraft.
In this huge maintenance hall, the slab - made of 300 t of reinforcement and 1,800 m3 of concrete - is equipped with an underfloor heating system, and energy supply manholes called "PITS" (compressed air/electricity/kerosene vapour extraction) will optimise the work of the technicians.

At the front of the building, a 107-space car park will be created, along with access roads from the main road.

At the rear of the hangar, a 120 x 90 m car park will be built, linked to the airport taxilane.

They are in fact three-dimensional, revolving around a longitudinal axis and varying in height from 1.5 to 4 m. This involved meticulous reinforcement and formwork work, which was also made to measure. They required 120 m3 of concrete each.
Once the concreting was complete, the waterproofing, guardrail, safety barrier, backfill and landscaping work followed, while the site installations gradually disappeared from view with the dismantling of the two assembly tables and the crane, and then the resumption of traffic under the motorway.

Our teams then went on to create the ledges, the most complex elements of the project.

120 m3 of concrete per ledge

With a length of 67 m, the ecoduct will span the tracks over a width of 40 m and reach a height of 8.60 m. The structure is made up of a dense metal and concrete structure, the vaulted piers of which have been produced using a curved concreting carriage that allows the walls to be 12.5 m long. Once the base of the vaults was complete, formwork tables were installed above the road to proceed with the reinforcement and concreting of the vault. Impressive dimensions for the ecoduct

Highly technical

As part of the project to widen the A3 motorway to 2x3 lanes, the Ponts et Chauss&eacute;es have entrusted us with the construction of a new ecoduct that will allow wildlife to travel in complete safety. Located on the Franco-Luxembourg border, the structure not only has impressive dimensions, but also an original geometry. The ecoduct will be shaped like an arch, tapering at its highest point. It will be made up of two very wide piers on either side of the roadway. These parameters make its construction all the more complex, especially as the work will be carried out close to the motorway, where traffic is heavy.

On the A3 motorway, at the French-Luxembourg border, Félix Giorgetti is building the "Neie Wal" ecoduct on behalf of the Ponts et Chaussées. An impressive structure with an original geometry that motorists have been able to see little by little for a few weeks.

With their original geometry, the ledges of the wildlife crossing are one of the most complex elements of the project.

The structure is made of durable XCarb steel produced by ArcelorMittal with a reduced carbon composition.

The first section, "PC", is a 530 m cycle path and includes an underpass under the railway tracks on the ArcelorMittal site. The "Alley" section includes landscaping on an area of approximately 1.2 ha. The route continues via a cycle and pedestrian path that splits to accommodate ramps for people with reduced mobility and leaves cyclists on a constant slope. In the "Promenade" section, the ramps join up to the centrepiece of the project, the bridge. With a length of 1,200 m and an effective width of 4.5 m, it will rise up to 7.5 m. Plazas with an extra width of up to 8.5 m will be created to provide rest areas. Next, the "Schmeltz" section, with a running section framed by the steelworks and the railway tracks, and then the "Belval" section, which takes cyclists to the Avenue des Sid&eacute;rurgistes and/or the Avenue du Rock'n'roll. Pedestrians will be able to use stairs or lifts to reach the university district.

With a total length of 1.9 km between Esch-Belval and Esch-sur-Alzette, the PC8 is divided into five sections.

This huge scale projet is part of the development of bicyle paths in the Grand Duchy, and is a part of the Veloexpressweg between the capital and the Belval campus.
